Physician Dispensing

Hematology Oncology Associates, P.C. is planning on starting a medication dispensing program that is targeted to provide convenience to our cancer patients.  This program is located at our 2828 E. Barnett Road, Medford office location.  Our other two locations will be provided the same patient services. 

Many of the new cancer medications are being transitioned from IV delivery to oral delivery.  These medications will be written as a prescription by your oncologist and then given to our “medication dispensing” technician. He/she will give you the medication in a similar manner as a pharmacy.  Payment and counseling will take place with each prescription.  We believe that counseling our patients about their medications, whether IV or oral, leads to better outcomes.  The “medication dispensing program” allows HOA the opportunity to counsel patients regarding lab values, assess conditions for refills, manage the transition from IV to oral medications, reduction in transcription errors associated with new prescriptions and helps the patient work through insurance problems that may occur.  Medications purchased outside our office can not be given to you by out staff.  There are too many uncertainties about where the medication came from, temperature regulations, tampering and compliance. 

Many of the local and national insurance companies participate in these programs (Medicare Part “B” and Medicare Part”D”) and if your treatment plan involves an oral or injectable medication we will have the ability to provide this medication service for your treatment.
